These businesses put people on the phone and in inboxes to get a named prospect to agree to a specific meeting time with your sales team. The work is narrow and concrete: building or working a list, qualifying whether someone matches your target profile, running the outreach cadence, handling objections on the first call, and booking the slot directly into a rep's calendar. Some also confirm the meeting the day before and chase reschedules, because a booked slot that no-shows is worth nothing. What changes for the customer is simple — reps stop prospecting and start showing up to conversations that are already half-warm, and pipeline becomes a number you can forecast rather than something that depends on whoever in the team is best at cold calling that week.
The people who go looking for this usually have a sales team that is expensive to keep idle. Reps are either burning hours dialling and getting voicemail, or they're closers who are wasted doing top-of-funnel work, or the founder has been doing the outreach personally and it doesn't scale past a certain point. Sometimes the trigger is a new product or territory with no existing pipeline and a deadline to show traction. Sometimes it's that marketing hands over leads nobody follows up on properly, so meetings just don't happen at the rate the business needs to hit its numbers.
Providers differ mainly in who they call and how. Some specialise in one channel — pure phone-based cold calling, or email and LinkedIn sequences with a human closing the loop — while others run a blended cadence across all three. Some bring their own lists and data; others work strictly from a list you supply, which matters if your ICP is narrow or your compliance rules are strict. Team size and location affect cost and also working hours: a large offshore contact centre can run volume cheaply, while a smaller onshore team tends to charge more but sounds more native on the call and handles nuanced objections better. Worth comparing directly: what counts as a qualified meeting, whether shows are guaranteed or just booked, how quickly they ramp on a new offer, and whether pricing is per appointment, retainer, or seat-based.
